Youth Projects Meeting. June 2011

.
The meeting held on Tuesday 19th. July at the memorial hall was attended by 18 youngsters ( 6girls, 12 boys) 3 parish councillors (Tony Bartels, Lizzie Bacon & myself) and 3 parents (Rachel Coles, Darren Stevens & Carol Bartels) Overall, the meeting was again lively and informative, much input from Rachel Coles and Darren Stevens, who is always one of the stalwarts of our meetings.

As reported in last months newsletter Stuart Weston with Tom and Casey had volunteered to go around and ask as many of the youngsters of the parish what exactly their wishes were, this they had rather cleverly done in the form of a number of specific petitions, the results of these petitions were as follows:

YOUTH CLUB. This would be a meeting place on certain evening(s) a week with games available such as Pool, table football, table tennis etc. 39 signatures.
HALF PIPE. To have in the village a half pipe for skate boards, roller blades, scooters etc. 25 signatures
BMX TRACK. To have in the village a piece of land that could be varied for use by BMX bikes. 16 signatures.
GENERAL QUESTIONAIRE. This was rather clever thinking as they asked the youngsters what other interests they would like to see available, top answers were : Gym Equipment 94%. Teen Shelter 82% Basketball area re-laid 58% A good Roundabout 47% Swimming 24%

Going through the signatures I notice that about 40% of the signature’s were girls. We did discuss at the meeting the fact that the boys were far more to the fore than the girls, perhaps any young ladies with idea’s could get their suggestions through to Lizzie Bacon.

As they have done such a superb job we have asked Stuart, Tom & Casey to please get together a youth ‘e-mail’ list, this they will be responsible for keeping & running, this small data-base will be used by them to pass on information to all the youngsters quickly.

As you will all see the youngsters of our parish have done a superb job, their interest is now very keen, we must all be very proud of them.
