Heritage Lottery Fund to ‘Make Memories’ in Hertfordshire

Local people are being invited to share their memories as part of a major new online community project, led by Hertfordshire Archives and Local Studies, thanks to a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The award of £49,600 will help to develop community archive websites to help preserve stories and recollections from Hertfordshire residents. Anybody with an interest in Hertfordshire, wherever they live, will be able to access the website and add their own memories and photographs.

As the project grows, photographs, stories, and audio and video clips will be preserved for the future. ‘Making Memories’ will be supported by archive, library and museum staff, but run by local volunteers, who will edit the websites and oversee their development.

Volunteers are needed to join community archive groups and create their own websites. This is a great opportunity to learn new skills and no previous experience is needed. Hertfordshire Archives are also looking for people with photographs and memories to kick-start this exciting project. To help get things moving, they are holding two informal open events, where people will be able to find out how to get involved.
