St Nicholas Church - Concerts
We held our first concert amid builder's rubble in 1991, and have since built a loyal and enthusiastic audience. We originally presented choral music and thanks to the talents of Aidan Oliver, the Director of Spiritus, we have be able to commission original anthologies of music and words which have included Trafalgar, Samuel Pepys, John Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress and as well as a special concert for the Queen's Golden Jubilee. We have also been able to present a number of plays and one man shows, and try to offer 3 productions per year. We are fortunate to have an extensive mailing list but we are hugely grateful to the friends of St Nicholas who have made a lot of these productions possible.
In 2009 we look forward to at least two Shakespeare productions. Over the last 10 years we have presented most of Mozarts major operas. These are performed in the round or half round. Most concerts and productions are presented in candle-light. During Howard Guard's year as High Sherrif he presented The Marriage of Figaro at Netherwylde and La Bohem at St Nicholas which was both in candle-light and totally in the round.
